Handsignaller Initial Course What is it for: For some of the safe systems that are required to protect both persons working on the railway and the infrastructure itself, the COSS/PICOP may need to utilise the services of a Handsignaller to assist in blocking the line(s). Who should attend: Any person who is over the age of 18 years, who their Sponsor has deemed suitably rail experienced and mature enough and is required to carry out Handsignalling duties while on the railway environment. As a Handsignaller is classed as working alone, they must either hold COSS or IWA competency as a pre-requisite. Any COSS with a Red Triangle on their card is prohibited from working alone on the Infrastructure and therefore is not eligible to attend. Course Objectives: Upon successful completion of the course, the candidates will be able to demonstrate their understanding and ability to carry out Handsignalling duties in line with Network Rail Rule Book GE/RT8000 series, and the Railway Group Standard GO/RT3262 Auxiliary Operating Duties. What does it contain:
How is it taught: Tutor led sessions, along with group discussions, brainstorming exercises, with desktop scenarios to practice the skills delegates have just learnt. Theory and practical assessments are included at the end of the course to determine satisfactory competence.
